“And now for something completely different!”

Well—in another 2 weeks, it will be 4 months of unemployment. Other than 3 interviews (one real—UMSL, two not—American Income Life Insurance Company, who apparently didn’t even notice that I’d been called before!) There were also four interviews with staffing agencies—unfortunately, nothing has come up yet.

There’s been more job fairing, class taking, networking, etc., than I care to think about. I’m going to total the number of applications sent, books, and other learning materials purchased, and time spent learning (or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof!) and analyze it—obviously, something is quite wrong. According to the materials I bought, I should at least have nibbles by now—could it be possible that the job search is like a recipe? Perhaps I’m adding baking powder instead of baking soda, and my final result is a bit…off.

Well, if I’ve learned anything, I’ve learned that I have to have a 30-60-90 Day Plan. So, while I can imagine what that would entail for teaching, sales, and other professions, I cannot for the life of me think of what that would entail for an administrative support career, other than the obvious—Certification in Office (2007, 2010, 2013…just pick one!) I definitely know I’m behind on my accounting software—I was told that in my latest interview (last Thursday). Apparently Excel isn’t used very much for budgeting. Meh. Can’t say that I’m totally surprised, but come on—I don’t think that many offices (at least those dealing with education) are going to shell out money for QuickBooks licenses. Then again, the budget was all done in Oracle (Banner), so the advice was right—I didn’t need to use Excel for budgeting, at least for any future positions (hey, if the staffing talent coordinator doesn’t know, then who does?)

I also received a call from the BOAT program (only four months after I contacted them! So much has changed since then…) it’s a ten-week intensive course, and once done, I’ll have another of those coveted MOS certificates! I can place that on the mantle next to my diplomas—haven’t used them for toilet paper yet…

Not YET!
